Gloves; secateurs; watering can; seaweed solution
Here’s how
Step 1 Wearing your gloves, lift potted conifer out of its plastic nursery pot and sit it in terracotta pot to check for size. You need to ensure that soil surface of plant will sit a few centimetres below lip of new pot.

Step 2 Lift conifer out and, using secateurs, loosen any tight roots which encircle outside of root ball.

Step 3 Carefully position conifer in new pot, making sure it’s centred. Backfill around plant with fresh potting mix.

Step 4 Firm down potting mix, ensuring no mix is heaped up around trunk. Use watering can to water plant with seaweed solution.
