Gather your supplies
- Gyprock Rapid Repair Kit (includes patching compound, self‑adhesive mesh tape and broad knife)
You’ll also need
- Utility knife
- Fine sandpaper
- Vacuum
- Acrylic undercoat
- Interior acrylic to match the wall colour
- Painting equipment
- Doorstop
Here’s how
Step 1
Remove any loose plaster from around hole. To provide a key for patching compound, score lines in plaster wall where it will be patched.
Step 2
Mix patching compound following packet instructions. Fill hole with compound so it finishes flush with wall. Leave to dry.
Step 3
Cut a strip of selfadhesive mesh tape and press onto wall over hole. Mix up more compound and spread over tape so it just covers it. Feather edges of compound to surrounding wall and leave to dry.
Step 4
Mix and then apply a second layer of compound slightly wider than the first. Feather edges then leave to dry.
Step 5
Lightly sand-dried compound to make smooth and blend new work with surrounding wall. Remove dust with vacuum.
Step 6
Apply undercoat to patch. Let dry then apply 2 coats of interior acrylic, allowing paint to dry after each coat.
Step 7
Install a doorstop behind the door to prevent the hole happening again.
