Fabulous metallic feature wall Better Homes and Gardens

Think this striped sensation is wallpaper? Think again! This dazzling feature wall is actually created using three metallic paint colours. Just mask up the wall, apply paint, and your home will shine with stripes. For a near flawless finish on a flat wall, opt for a short nap roller. If your wall isn’t smooth, add texture and disguise any lumps using a wide brush and crisscross strokes.

1. Achieve this unique effect by first measuring and marking up a white or neutral wall. Mark a series of points along each line or use a laser level to guide you when applying masking tape. Use either a 10-12mm nap roller for a smooth finish or a wide brush for a textured look. Where the colours butt together, you’ll need to mask, paint, let dry, then mask to paint the adjoining colour.

2. The sideboard neatly blends in as it has been painted to match the wall. With timber pieces, sand first, then apply a stain blocker. Coat in the same colour as the existing wall colour, then measure and mark up the position of the stripes in the same increments. Use a synthetic brush to apply the metallic paint.

3. With your paint job done, it’s time to complete the picture. We’ve gone a little retro with a graphic mirror, lamp, easy chair and a striking bowl of colourful calla lilies.

When applying masking tape, take care not to overstretch it. Press it down well with a plastic scraper to avoid paint bleed.
