Gather you supplies
Canvas drop cloth, sewing machine and thread, leather remnant, hobby fill
Step 1 From drop cloth, cut
2 pieces 52 x 72cm, 2 long
strips 72 x 14cm and 2 short strips 52 x 14cm. Cut leather
into 2 strips 20 x 4cm.
Step 2 Topstitch around each leather piece, 2mm in from edge. Centre each leather strip on a short fabric strip. Stitch a rectangle with an X, at each leather end to attach.
Step 3 With right sides facing, join short ends of the 4 strips together with 1cm seams, in order: short, long, short, long. Join gusset ends to make a loop.
Step 4 With right sides together, pin gusset to cushion top. Easing fabric around corners, use a 1cm seam to stitch gusset to top panel. Repeat to stitch gusset to cushion back, leaving a 45cm opening on one side for turning through.
Step 5 Clip corners and turn through. Fill with hobby fill and slip stitch opening closed.
Note: For toy, from drop cloth scraps, cut six 1m x 5cm strips. Clamp together. Divide strips evenly into 3 sets and plait. Knot each end, pulling firmly to tighten knot as fabric stretches.
