But they’re not the only creepy crawly to experience a boom.
Seven News reported that spider numbers have also increased due to the warm weather, and they’re providing the perfect fodder for cockroaches.
Pest controllers have reported a 15 per cent increase in call-outs due to the cockroach and spider boom.
"In summer the eggs hatch a lot faster, which means this summer we have had more cockroaches than usual," a spokesperson from Attack Pest Control Sydney explained.
“As people move interstate they can take cockroaches with them in appliances or in cardboard boxes, so we do see them spreading that way.”
So how do you keep cockroaches out of your home? Here are some simple tricks to keep them at bay all year round.
1. Mix baking powder with sugar and sprinkle it around in cockroach-prone spots.
2. Crush fresh bay leaves to a powder and spread it around your home.
3. Sprinkle a mixture of borax and sugar – but as borax is a toxic substance, it’s not suitable for homes with animals and children.
