Discussing the best way to clean, readers in an article published on Apartment Therapy agreed the kitchen should always be cleaned first.
"I always like to start with the kitchen, so something complicated and major is off my list and end in the bathroom, my least favourite room to clean," one reader said.
Another added: "I do the kitchen first when I clean other people's homes because yeah, it probably takes the most work and... who wants to do that when you're already beat from cleaning the rest of the house?"
Regardless of the cleaning order you choose, there’s another reason why you should keep on top of your messy kitchen.
According to research published in the journal Environment and Behaviour, people with a messy kitchen consume more calories than those with a tidy one.
"The notion that places — such as cluttered offices or disorganized homes — can be modified to help us control our food intake is becoming an important solution in helping us become more slim by design," said Brian Wansink of Cornell University about the study.
"It's important to know whether a food environment can actually cause you to, unknowingly, overeat."
