The best Christmas tree skirts and collars to decorate your centrepiece

It's no secret that the star of the Christmas tree is quite literally the star atop the tree... Yet among the glitz and the glamour of said star and its supporting baubles, ornaments and lights, Christmas cheer for the base down below is often forgotten.

Give the trunk of your tree some stylistic love this year with a skirt made from fabric like wool or hessian, or a rattan collar that artfully cuffs around any unsightly base stand, and also provides a polished backdrop for all your wrapped presents.

And so that your Christmas tree can shine bright from top to toe, we've rounded up some of the most affordable, practical and stylish skirts and collars currently on the market this holiday season.

What is the purpose of a tree skirt?

Tree skirts and collars are made for decorating the base of a Christmas tree and can polish the look of your festive centrepiece. As well as catching fallen ornaments and pine needles, they provide the perfect setting for laying out Christmas presents and hide the stands supporting the tree at its base.

How do I choose a tree skirt or collar?

There a few factors - including floor space, size and colour - to think of when it comes to choosing the right skirt or collar for your tree come the silly season. If you have limited floor space in your living or dining room, a collar might better suit your tree, whereas if you're wanting to minimise mess shed from branches, a skirt would be the way to go. Be sure to note the size of your Christmas tree itself before choosing an adequately sized skirt or collar - as well as figuring out the colour scheme of your festive décor!
