It’s a natural to reach for water when responding to a spill on the carpet. But too much H2O can be a bad thing.
When cleaning a carpet stain, be careful not to drown the area. Applying too much water can ruin your carpet. Doing so can cause discoloration, shrinkage, and brownouts.
Better Homes and Gardens said: "Applying water and liquid cleaners in moderation excess moisture will damage carpet backing."
Additionally, scrubbing can push the stain deeper into the carpet fibres. Instead, spray the area with your chosen stain remover in moderation and gently blot the surface until clean.
Using a clean cloth, soak up any extra moisture.
