Names have always been heavily influenced by pop-culture and trends, just as our taste in food, music and fashion are. However, there are some names that find favour among some people, while they perplex others.  The concept of ‘bogan’ baby names is a stereotyped idea born from names often inspired by pop-culture or by the parents’ desire to name their child something unique. This usually results in characteristics such as unusual spelling, or words being reimagined into names. Below, you will find some of 2018’s most entertaining new ‘bogan’ names, according to internet trends. A category of Australian names that exists, but is often by-passed because of its controversial characteristics and stigmatised history.

Sabrina Rogers-Anderson writes on Kidspot that the new 'bogan' trend includes changing the spelling of existing names, spelling names backwards, and coming up with new names formed by combining exotic syllables. The perfect example of this new bogan name trend is the female moniker 'Abcde', pronounced ‘ab-si-dee’. This name has been around for a while in the US it was used 328 times between 1984 and 2014. We looked to Sabrina's book,  'The Little Book of Bogan Baby Names' for inspiration for this story.
