The 4 new looks for Christmas decorations at Big W

Start decking your halls! - by Lucy Francis
  • 29 Sep 2021

It may seem early, but the reality is – Christmas is just around the corner! With that being said, it’s time to start thinking about how you’re going to decorate your home for the festive season. If you’re after affordable and stylish Christmas decorations, make a beeline for Big W.

Mitchell Armitt, Christmas Buyer for BIG W, says that despite the fact that we haven't yet reached Halloween, families are starting to prep for Christmas a little earlier this year.

“We can hear the jingle of Santa’s sleigh getting closer, with the word ‘Christmas’ trending as the second most searched for term on the BIG W website this week. In fact, it’s consistently been in the top five since early September," he says. "Shop early to avoid missing out."

Another reason we're loving this year's collection is that it has strong sustainable undertones. "When we think of world pollution, plastic bottles and bags spring to mind. However, many of us don't realise that glitter is a real problem too," says Armitt. "So BIG W is excited to introduce its first full glitter free range of decorations, Classic Christmas. This is one of BIG W’s first steps towards our sustainability commitment to have 100% of own brand products sustainability sourced by 2025."

Looks like we can't wait to welcome the festive cheer – and with the year we've had (and the second less-than-average one at that), is it any wonder?

Here’s a round-up of Big W’s Christmas decorations.

Four big Christmas décor trends have emerged from Big W this year: classic, sorbet, Parisian and ornate.

1. Classic

'Tis the season to sparkle without the glitter. This collection was designed to be 100% glitter-free, making it perfect for all those eco-friendly buyers out there. With a nod to the reds and greens of a classic Christmas, combined with an Australian twist, this timeless look never ages.

2. Sorbet

Brighten and lighten your holiday spread. Though a pastel colour palette doesn't typically come to mind when you think about Christmas, these summery ice cream pastels and soft metallics make for an extra sweet look. Bring things home by adding Australian Australian flora, wood and textural materials. The collection features washed gold bells and rope and pom pom textures, adding an extra softness.

3. Parisian

Travel to Paris without the price tag. This trend allows you to create a little bit of European flair in your home, with its berry tones, moody florals and woodland elements. The coloured glass and gold accents speak to the elegance of France, adding a unique shine to your Christmas decor.

4. Ornate

Creating an indoor winter wonderland for all. Rich foliage, frost and metallics come together in this opulent Christmas trend. Intricate and textural, this collection blends snow tones, core neutrals and glass elements. If you've always dreamed of a white Christmas, this is the look for you.

If you're looking to mix new trends with your existing decor, it's probably easier than you think! “Make sure you pick a good colour scheme and stick to it,” says Armitt.

“Freshen up your tree with some new statement pieces that match your current theme. You can also reinvigorate your Christmas decorations by adding some tabletop statement pieces too.”
