There’s nothing nicer or more inviting than a sweet-smelling home.
The good news is, it is possible to banish household odours and have your abode smelling fresh and delicious without regularly buying expensive candles or air fresheners, which often pollute the home with toxic chemicals.
In this week’s Better Home Hacks, Better Homes and Gardens’ Dora Papas shares her DIY tips for creating three different all-natural room scents.
To start, Papas says to choose any fruits, herbs and spices to create your signature scents.
“Today we’re making three different scents,” she says.
Step 1
To start, thinly slice some oranges, lemons and apples.
“In one jar, put three or four orange slices, one tablespoon of cloves and four cinnamon sticks,” she advises.
Step 2
In a separate jar, place eight apple slices, six drops of almond extract, four cinnamon sticks and three slices of oranges.
Step 3
In your third jar, pop in five lemon slices, two rosemary sprigs and six drops of vanilla extract.
Step 4
Fill each jar with water and refrigerate until you are ready to use them.
Step 5
When you’re ready to use, pour the contents of the desired jar into a saucepan and simmer.
“As the water evaporates, refill as needed and the smell will waft around your home,” says Papas. “This is a great trick before any guests arrive or just after you’ve done a big clean of the house.”
