If your garden is in need a weeding or a little pest control, it might be a good idea to hold off for a few days.
According to Milton Black’s planting guide, May 9–14 is the perfect time to get your hands dirty – just make sure you don’t plant anything.
"Destroy or spray weeds, pests and noxious growth," Milton Black wrote the April issue of Better Homes and Gardens. "Burn off, cut lawns, do heavy pruning and clear rubbish – don’t plant or transplant anything. Prepare soil and fertilise garden beds for future planting; spread; spread and make compost; feed all established plants, shrubs and lawns, then water in. This is the best time for dethatching or coring lawns."
