The best rice cookers that will have you asking for seconds

Nothing beats the smell of freshly cooked rice - having freshly cooked rice with a touch of a button is the reality we all want to live in right now.

Enter: the electric rice cooker. A must-have and somewhat nostalgic appliance for every home.

First developed in 1955 in Japan by Toshiba - the first electric rice cooker used a method called “double-pot indirect cooking”; water is boiled in the outer pot and the rice cooker would turn off once all the water evaporates. This method is still used in some rice cookers today (because it works just as well as the newer versions). However, since then, we’ve seen the invention of induction heating (IH) and Fuzzy logic rice cookers that made investing in an electric rice cooker instead even more appealing.

How do IH rice cookers work?

IH rice cookers use coils around the pot that produce a magnetic field when an electric current passes through it. From this, the pot heats up incredibly fast, cooking the rice evenly.

What is a Fuzzy logic rice cooker?

Fuzzy logic technology found in recent electric rice cookers has a computer chip (also called a microchip, microcomputer or micom) that directs it to make adjustments to cooking time and temperature based on a variety of factors.

For example, it takes longer to cook brown rice, so rice cookers that are equipped with Fuzzy logic technology will react by reducing the temperature and cooking brown rice for longer.

What are the best rice cookers to buy in Australia?

Restaurant-quality rice is just one click (and one button) away. Read on for our top picks of the best electric rice cookers at varying price points that will make your next dinner prep easier than ever.
