As established in previous articles (see my blackout sleep mask and sunrise alarm clock reviews), sleep and myself have a tumultuous relationship. It’s a real ‘will they or won’t they’, on-and-off, Ross-and-Rachel type deal wherein the factors going into my sleeping environment must be just right or there will be trouble in paradise. Among other factors such as zero light, my Goldilocks slumber circumstances also require reduced noise.
Seeing as I live in a block of terrace houses in Sydney’s Inner West with paper thin walls, echoing metal spiral staircases and a bedroom facing the street, earplugs are a must. I’ve gone through all the classic brands of foam earplugs and they just haven’t cut it for me. So, I decided it was finally time to try the viral Loop Quiet earplugs that is a bestseller on Amazon with 25 000 five-star reviews and has upwards of 25 million mentioned posts on Tiktok.

How to use Loop Quiet earplugs
Take the ring of the earplug between your thumb and index finger and insert it into your ear until the ear canal feels sealed. Then turn clockwise and adjust until the earplug sits comfortably in your ear. (Hot tip: you can check you’ve put the Loop earplugs in correctly by checking that they’re not visible from the front.)
Results from our road test
Before using the Loop earplugs, I tried out the different sized ear tips that came in the box. Through this I found out that my ear canals are differently sized, and so I have a XS ear tip in one ear and a S ear tip in the other – primo customisability. They’re easy to insert, comfortable to sleep in (they take a tiny bit of getting used to if you sleep on your side) and are easy to clean. I love the compact carry case they come in which makes them easy to travel with and I found they actually made a difference to my sleep. Standard share house sounds such as footsteps on the stairwells, doors closing, neighbours through the wall and the chatter of pedestrians on the street below were significantly reduced but could still hear my alarm loud and clear.
Overall, are the Loop Quiet earplugs worth it?
I’d say that $39.95 is a very reasonable price for a pair of the Loop Quiet earplugs. For me, a sounder sleep with less aural interruptions would definitely be worth the price tag – especially when the earplugs are reusable for multiple years and the ear tips, for multiple months. They’re the best sleep earplugs I’ve ever used (and I’ve tried and tested many a earplug in my time) and I really don’t see myself switching to another brand of earplugs anytime soon.
