Following 30 years of diligent passport processing, Australia Post’s tender with the Federal Government will run out in June 2017 and a few industries, such as pharmacies and travel agents, have already put their hands up to win the tender and thus attract more business.
“It will definitely help drive people into travel agencies; it will bring travellers back to the travel agents,” Luke Crawford from travel agency Travelstartup told The Australian.
Looks like it’s going to be a lucrative business for whoever gets involved. The Australian government expects passport applications to rise from 1.8 million in 2014/15 to three million by 2019.
UPDATE: The Australia Post contract has been renewed until 2018.
