7 ways to use dip-dye and Shibori in your home

You don’t need to be an indoctrinated ‘bohemian-homewares-lover’ to embrace the dip-dye trend. You can dip-in to the trend a little, or a lot, for a fresh home interiors look and feel.

Even better, you can DIY (great school-holiday project for the kids!) for that home-made loving feeling, or order these unique one-of-a-kind pieces online from crafty sellers.

Here’s our picks of dip-dye home décor. Get ready to decorate!

1. Hand-dyed cushions

There’s something truly special about the ancient art of Japanese Shibori hand-dyed goods. The practice is surprisingly simple but yields stunning results. Add a few indigo or other coloured Shibori cushions to your sofa to instantly add interest to your living space. Image: REWHomeware

2. Whimsical wall décor

Walls can be so … beige sometimes. But you can put them toi better use that just propping up your roof (although technically that is a very important job) – make them an art gallery wall canvas and hang your favourite memorabilia. We love the macramé dip-dye trend, which combines age-old craft traditions with whimsical bohemian ombre for a beautiful wall decoration. Image: MAJAMIstudio

3. Artwork beanbags

Almost too beautiful to park your backside in, this unique lounge room feature piece is made from a Vintage African Indigo (circa 1970-1990), handwoven tie-dyed strip cloth from Burkina Faso. Each indigo piece is unique with varied tie-dyed designs and deepness of colour, as it's the nature of the artisanal process that an artisan's handiwork fares differently.

Perhaps not an item for the kids to bounce in and out of, but beautiful nonetheless, this vintage textile is generally delicate and requires mindful treatment and minimal use. Image: PillowsByElissa
